Introducing myself

About me graphic.png

I'm Lucy, a dedicated therapist committed to providing a compassionate, safe space where you can explore your personal experience with being an adult child of an alcoholic - what that has meant for you and how it has impacted your life.

After my own life changing experience with therapy to understand my relationship with my alcoholic father, and general interest in mental health and self-help, I decided to train in counselling and change the course of my career.

A little insight to who I am:

  • I grew up in a mix of south of England, Spain and Gibraltar

  • I studied English and Spanish at Southampton University

  • I used to work in PR & Communications

  • I have lived in Bristol for 8 years

  • I have a Golden Retriever called Benji (sometimes features on online sessions in the background!)

  • I got married in 2025 and have a baby boy

  • I love live music, self-help books or classics, yoga, seeing new countries

  • I also work for a skateboarding charity called The Ben Raemers Foundation

My Approach

Being an adult child of an alcoholic can feel like or mean:

- Feeling guilty about everything and anything

- Suppressing memories or emotions but knowing you should talk about them

- Being incredibly confused about loving someone that's hurt you so much

- Having a very different experience/reaction to your sibling/siblings

- Being estranged

- Feeling like estrangement would be the best thing for you but you are worried, scared or it is not an option

- Struggle with self-worth because you have been abandoned (literally or figuratively) by your parent

- Anyone that lies to you is the worst thing they could ever do

- Trying so hard not to be like that parent that you've become anxious and a perfectionist

- You had to look after yourself a lot so you have become hyper-independent and struggle to say you need others or let others in

- You've walked on eggshells for years

Therapy is a collaborative process. We work together to understand where your unique experiences have led you, and how they impact who you are today. I create a flexible space that adapts to your needs, whether we're navigating immediate crises or exploring long-standing patterns. From the first session, I like to offer practical help/guidance where applicable and appropriate.

Introductory Call

We begin with a free 15-minute phone call to discuss your needs and see if my approach feels like the right fit for you. This is optional, not obligatory.

Initial Session

During our first full session, we dive deeper into your current challenges and how you feel day to day. I can further explain my approach and how I like to work, and we can see if that suits you. We may talk about your history if necessary, and I will seek to gain a clearer understanding of what you want from therapy.

Ongoing Support

We move into weekly or fortnightly sessions, building a relationship together and working on how best to help you in the present and the future for long-term growth. I like to offer practical help and advice where appropriate.
